In this report, we examine how Russian regions perceived Vladimir Putin’s visit to China. Despite official rhetoric about a strategic partnership and Russia’s strengthening international position, public discussions were dominated by concerns about dependence on China, the war, mobilisation, rising prices, and the country’s internal problems.

The monitoring covers the period from 18 to 24 May 2026 and is based on an analysis of regional VKontakte and Telegram communities.
